About Us
Buona Terra is owned and operated by Chef Jose "Chepé" Garcia (formerly of Tuscany on Taylor and Riva) and his wife, hospitality industry veteran Eileen Gregg Garcia. Longtime residents of the Logan Square neighborhood, we opened our restaurant in a storefront on California Avenue — just south of Logan Boulevard — in April 2002. Our goal was to create the kind of dining experience we ourselves enjoy — intimate, relaxed and as appropriate for a first date or a special family get-together as it is for a good meal before a movie.
Modeled on the classic ristorantes of Italy, Buona Terra presents the freshest ingredients available and prepares them with care and creativity. Each day for Chepé begins at the markets, where he hand-picks the finest of the day's meat and produce offerings. Many of the ingredients he buys are used to create our daily specials. Back at the restaurant, Chepé directs and supervises every aspect of the kitchen activity, ensuring favorite recipes are followed to the letter.
For our diners, that level of attention means that — whether you were impressed by the Vitello alla Cerafino or delighted by the Spaghetti ai Gamberetti — your favorite dish will be as memorable on your tenth visit to Buona Terra as it was on your first.
